I trust we are all clear on the type of school I am referring to now?

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
No.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
It's funny, because I totally heard your comment in a snotty, posh British accent.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, no, I guess we're just not as posh and educated as you to get it.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-01 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
... People who paid for their education shouldn't act? What on cthulhu's doomed earth?

(Anonymous) 2024-08-01 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Posh people whose mummy and daddy paid for their all access pass into the industry shouldn't be allowed to act. Correct.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-01 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh. I’d rather they act than go into government or have a multimillion pound business gifted to them at graduation.
Honestly of the ones I know about, most are good actors. Hugh Laurie, Tom Hiddleston, Emma Thompson, Rowan Atkinson, and Ian McKellan off the top of my head are all very talented. Benedict Cumberbatch is the only one I know with that kind of background who isn’t great at what he does.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Just because they're posh doesn't mean they won't be good actors/actresses.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
SA
*adding that OP's opinion is kind of biased and classist.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
If you think the UK isn't in the middle of an ongoing class war waged on the poor and working class, then you are part of the problem. It isn't classist, it is self defence.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
NA

Throwing a fit if an actor has gone to private school is self defense?

*laughs hysterically in Scholarship Kid*

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
*laughs in totally not posh Oxford grad*

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Why should they have any shame about it? What is shameful about going to an expensive school and then becoming an actor? What would be an acceptable profession for them to have? Is it okay if they were able to go, but didn't?

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Idk about schools but all forms of nepotism can get fucked. Everyone should have a fair chance. (I mean where possible. Obviously there will still be barriers for some.)

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, nah thanks. British comedy and acting would be a lot poorer without Oxbridge grads.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
Now that is classist. Classic UK classism.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
See, that's why I think it's fair to say you have a chip on your shoulder.

You seem to have read the comment as "only Oxbridge educated comedians/actors are good" whereas I thought it was clearly meant as "some of the best comedians/actors are Oxbridge educated and it would be a loss to comedy/acting if they wouldn't be allowed to perform".

I mean, I'd rather they went into acting than into politics.

There's a chip on your shoulder
And it's big as a boulder

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
With the chance I've been given
I'm gonna be driven as hell

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
:D

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
This is honestly a problem that's been pushing working class people out of all creative fields, not just acting anymore. They're the only people who can afford 3 unpaid internships in London before even thinking about kick-starting their real career.
