[Laurel and Hardy]

Laurel and Hardy! \o/ Trust me, you're not alone. My whole family is obsessed with their films, and my cousins (16,14&10) watch them often.

[identity profile] frankincensy.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm 20 and some of their films can make me cry with laughter, same for my siblings and pretty much my entire family, really.

I was going to link to the magnificent "On the Trail of the Lonesome Pine" sequence for the enlightenment of everyone who hasn't seen it, but it doesn't seem to be on YouTube. D:

I was able to find it!

One of their golden moments, along with Shine on Harvest Moon.

Glad I'm not alone for liking them!

As a kid I preferred them over Chaplin. At 21, I still do.

(Anonymous) 2009-08-25 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel that both of these groups are far inferior to WC Fields, who needs way more love.

[identity profile] singeaddams.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
In the event of Fields vs Laurel and Hardy and Chaplin WANK I seriously don't know who I'd support. I love all four.

I'm fairly sure my head would explode.

I used to be a teacher's aide in an elementary school on an Indian reservation in the Northwest US. My 4th and 5th grade students were pretty tough kids by that age and most of them had been watching violent and scary movies since they were very young, so they were fairly jaded when it came to entertainment.

One day, for a reason I forget now, we had to gather the kids into the library and keep them occupied, so our principal gave us a DVD of Laurel and Hardy short films to watch, and I was leery of how well this would go over with the students. Let me tell you, our kids were completely engrossed and laughing their butts off. It was amazing to watch.

That sounds so cute! That always made me laugh as a kid.

[identity profile] xlions-roarx.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I am 18, and they really have changed my life. You are not alone.

[identity profile] jezmitt.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I prefer Buster Keaton myself, but eh.

March of the Wooden Soldiers/Babes in Toyland was one of my favorite films growing up. :D

[identity profile] greysquirrel.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Came to say the same thing myself. I love Buster more, but I grew up watching them. My dad really loves them, though there's no good set to buy right now for them like there is for Keaton.

And Wooden Soldiers is a holiday tradition for my family. I can't remember a time I didn't watch that show on Christmas Eve.

Didn't get to see last year and it just didn't feel like Christmas. :(

You're not alone anon! I love those two to pieces. There's a documentary I love that talks about their friendship IRL and it's very moving.

[identity profile] ryahhime.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoa, Laurel and Hardy! My dad practically raised me on their films! I thought they were way more entertaining than Chaplin.

[identity profile] razetora.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
My little brother is nine and loves them :3
He even has DVDs

[identity profile] froggie.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
You are SO not alone...I grew up watching these two's videos. It gives me such joy to see them on fandomsecrets, of all places :)

[identity profile] arcadiaego.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Not alone. :)

You are not alone. Laurel had the greatest and most infectious laugh.

Super Geeky fact: Brent Spiner of Star Trek: The Next Generation, based Data's laugh from Deja Q on Laurel's laugh.

That is so cute.

Yes I love his laugh.

[identity profile] singeaddams.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
It's not every comedian that can cackle for three minutes straight and still be funny!

[identity profile] amredthelector.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
I love Laurel and Hardy! I also love Chaplin, and think that he's funny, but in a very different way then these two.

Also, if I remember correctly, there is one short of these two living together and taking care of a baby, and it's played very much like a married couple. Can't remember the title, though.

(Anonymous) 2009-08-26 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, you are so not alone. I grew up watching Laurel and Hardy at my grandparents' home, and even now, I prefer them (along with Chaplin, Keaton, the Marx Brothers, Lloyd, Langdon and Fields) over today's film comedians. Their comedic timing and delivery were flawless.

This exactly.

[identity profile] mimine.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I absolutely love them too. I grew up on their films and when I revisited them when I was a little older I totally thought those two were together. They even sleep on the same bed in at least one movie. I also had a huge crush on Hardy :)

It was so cute to see this secret! Thanks!
