It wasn’t easy but I did find something out about this. Though it’s a far cry from your assertion that tickets purchased through Marvel were turned away, which makes it sound like people paid for a ticket that wasn’t honored but everyone else was allowed in.
In reality, it was the annual lottery shitshow of security not starting to go through the queue of thousands of people until 15 minutes before start time and then doing a piss poor job so a bunch of people who hadn’t won got in and a bunch of people who did win didn’t get through the line before they shut the doors. And as always about half of the section reserved for the lottery winners was empty.

This is an annual event. It isn’t a surprise to anyone, literally no fan of the franchise would think differently about the movie or the stars because of something that happens every single year. That’s why it was so hard to find anything about it because it isn’t notable. I only found one thread on a daily roundup of SDCC in an attendees FB group and half the comments are about how this happens every year.
