Premium? You guys know about adblockers, right?

(Anonymous) 2024-08-03 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That was my exact thought. Internet literacy is really at all time low right now. Next, people won't know how to pirate stuff. Oh, wait...

Adblocker doesn't work on Youtube anymore.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-03 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, yes it does.

Really? I got a warning from Youtube that if I didn't turn it off, I wouldn't be able to access the site anymore.

I have uBlock origin and for a while it was like a tug of war, but I haven't had youtube cry about it in months.

Use firefox as well. Chrome is rubbish.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-04 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
I have Adblock Plus and I can confirm it still works fine on YouTube.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-04 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Using Ublock Origin without a problem. And SponsorBlock for Firefox, which is amazing for YEETing all the crap that isn't inserted by YouTube, it's just video makers wasting people's time with "Like/follow" begging and in-video product plugs and all the other crap that doesn't belong on the internet. Intros and end credits and filler. Basically the first person to watch the video and use the program makes recommendations and if other people agree, it'll suggest to you where to start and stop to just get the goods. I tried it out thinking "how is this seriously supposed to work?" but it's magnificent.

I use Ublock origins and yeah, for a while I was getting that countdown of videos where Youtube was threatening to block me. IIRC at the time it was like this race between YT and UBlock where YT tries to detect UBlock and UBlock updating their info so that they kept blocking ads. (Sorry, I am not terribly computer literate, that's an extremely rough paraphrase!) UBblock must've won because I haven't seen any warnings on YT for ages, and ads are still being blocked.

OP

Personally, if I made money from YouTube by using content available for free on YouTube, I think I'd feel scummy using adblockers. But as a viewer, how would I know if the person is paying for premium or using adblockers? Do whatever you want, just get rid of the ads in the videos you're reacting to.

Do adblockers work when using the app or art TVs? That's how I usually watch YouTube. I haven't watched YouTube in a browser window in ages.

Downloaded SmartTube and it gets rid of all the sponsored bits inside videos too. Beautiful.

Are they doing live reaction videos? If not, why aren’t they just editing out the original ads?

(Anonymous) 2024-08-03 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I have no idea. These aren't live reactions, but they are usually without any (obvious) editing. They could still just edit out the ads.

Though if you make your money reacting to content, I think watching the ads is poor form anyway as it interrupts what you're watching and kills the mood. YouTube videos aren't created with ad breaks in mind, like traditional TV.

Just get rid of the ads, either via premium or adblockers.

What kind of chump would ever give Youtube money? Mind-boggling.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-04 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly this.
