It is getting less, but there are still too many. It is the unholy confluence of his [thankfully fading] early reputation as a space focused futurist, and the chudlike right wing military fans of DS9 and their boom-boom space battles pew-pew "storyline" from later seasons. They still idolize him.

Yeah, I'm a DS9 fan and I cannot understand how the right-wing military part of the fanbase came about. DS9 is very specific and clear about how harmful and awful the war is, and that the rightwing coup tactics were wrong! But I guess there's always going to be certain fans who see a space battle or hear "Section 31" and get an instant boner and tune out everything else.
