Yeah, that's pretty much my point. Hannibal destroys the people he dislikes and the one(s) he loves. He's malignant by nature. His version of love is malignant.

Sort of, but not really. We've already seen that he couldn't destroy Will. He would absolutely allow Will to destroy them both. And maybe that's as soft as he gets, but it is soft, relatively.

I guess we disagree on the character. I would also firmly hold that he did effectively destroy Will. He turned Will into something that the Will of early S1 would have been horrified by. Even in the series finale, Will chose to take himself out with Hannibal, in the face of what he had become under Hannibal's influence.

Hannibal's a cancer in the shape of a man. The narrative itself even draws parallels between Hannibal's malignancy and the malignancy of various cancers.

I said in my initial comment that he is soft for Will, kind of, in a manner of speaking. But he is still a cancer. His fundamental nature cannot change.
