I can see why this is a secret. In Texas this might actually get you burned at the stake as a witch if this one got out.

Hard same. Then again, I mostly don't like sports in general. Sometimes fun to watch in-person or with other people (though not American football, mostly just baseball or soccer/football).

I had to try SO HARD not to laugh at a friend of mine who is absolutely convinced that the olympics get people to "put aside their political differences". It does the exact opposite, has she ever even watched them??!!

I have to learn about football now because a relative is playing for a college team and I want to make them happy.

Horns down :(

This made me laugh

I'mma Kansas Citian who has always been on team "I don't understand the appeal of this at all, but have fun!" in regards to our sports teams, so the past few years have been WILD

I don't hate it, but I find it very boring and the dedication to it can reach truly obnoxious levels. I'm also not thrilled with how much money football and other (usually male) sports programs take up re: college/university funds, but that's a separate issue.

I tentatively take the position that watching football when you’re bored out of your skull in a tiny town is better than doing meth.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-10 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean... dutifully collecting, labeling, and cataloging your belly button lint is also better than doing meth. That's a real low bar.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-11 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, fifty-fifty.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-10 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
From OK, same.

Hahaha I always said I should have been from Texas because of how much I love it! (I hate Texas though so…)
NFL is a drag, it takes a million years to play one game. Big college football is almost as bad. But any other football game is an absolute delight for me to watch. I go to the small colleges/trade/high school football games in my area all the time and it’s always a blast. The crowd is better, the game is better. And it doesn’t take an entire day and half the night.

Oof, so sorry, nonny. That's got to be rough.

(My partner likes sports, and I like my partner, so I've developed the ability to turn it into background noise. I was unable to develop this ability with a past partner who I didn't actually like.)

Are you small town? I'm Texan, never had a problem in larger populated areas when I say I hate football. But small towns, oh man.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-11 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
I'm very meh on football. I think it would be a much better game if they kept the clock running during gameplay, except for serious injuries, but that will never happen given how much they charge for ad breaks. I don't really understand how anyone can really get into any NFL game - 20 seconds of play, whistle, ref discussion, announcement of penalty, players get in formation, start again, 40 seconds of play, ball out-of-bounds, players get in formation (and take forever doing it), start again, 30 seconds of play, ball gets turned over to the other side and it has taken 10 minutes to play 1 and 1/2 minutes of football, rinse and repeat for 3 and 1/2 hours.

American football is very literally the worst version of football that there is. It's an awful sport as a spectator.

Having sat through high school and college games, I think the experience can vary. I riffed on the announcer's blunders during high school, and the play action was pretty decent at the one college game I attended. That said, there are bigger differences in how each level hypes up their crowd. I'll have a more comprehensive view of those differences in the fall after I finally attend a professional game for the first time.
