I'm glad you have no responsibilities or priorities beyond seeing a new movie the second it comes out, but luckily for the box office numbers, quite a few people who are interested in a movie wait more than a week to go see it.

I've always found it funny the people who say stuff like "it's been out for two weeks, everyone who wants to has seen it." For one, I don't have the time or energy to see a movie on a weekday, so that limits it to weekend activity. But my weekends are packed in the summer, so I have to wait for a break in the schedule for me to be able to squeeze in a movie. I don't know if I have ever seen a movie opening weekend, even if it's a movie I've been dying to see and eagerly waiting for.

Funny enough, I actually managed to see Deadpool and Wolverine today! I enjoyed it immensely.

I can see why you would think that but it really isn’t how movie going works anymore. Deadpool & Wolverine saw more than a 50% drop on the second weekends and almost 80% of second weekend audiences were repeat viewers. Major spoilers now make up the majority of promotional material for that movie.

Just curious, how do they get the percentage of repeat viewers? Do they keep track of IDs of who is watching? Is it just a random poll?

AYRT but should have said earlier I’m not the one who said everyone who’s going to see has seen it.

Most tickets are sold online, even the ones purchased at the theatre use kiosks and require credit cards. I have no idea what their margin of error is for cash ticket sales though. I confess I was pretty surprised to read those numbers Thursday night. I especially thought the drop off from first to second weekend was huge but apparently it’s small compared to the average drop off for movies in post Covid times.

you've opened up a whole thread of questions and curiosities in my mind about tracking data now. I know it probably seems common sense that they track everything we do, but I honestly hadn't thought of them using cc data like that. I also wonder about the movie trends pre and post covid. My brain is just afire with random curiosities now lol
