Which fandoms? Pairings? Links to really, particularly good ones?

I'm curious.

Been back reading fics for my two OTPs, Melkor/Sauron and Celebrimbor/Sauron. It has been a while since I read fics, so there are actually new ones, yay.

Nothing ;_; I am fandomless atm and my old re-read standbys are not holding my interest or attention. I've been reading a lot of books, but sometimes a person just wants fic, not books, and my cup runneth empty.

A bit of a mix. My general reads are scifi or fantasy, but I've been mixing it up with some historical non-fiction and some work related studies (basically child development).

Lots of anime fandoms right now, tbh. Some of my favs I bookmarked.

You have to be kind of familiar with the family dynamics of the Todoroki family but it is such an amazing story about redemption, forgiveness, and how hard both of those things are.

Splitting my time between Yu-Gi-Oh! (JouKai), Back to the Future, and DC Comics.

I'm curioous, what are the popular tropes or themes in Back to the Future fandom?

Idk about popular tropes or themes, but I'm considering making a Friday secret about how I'm devouring every Alternate 1985/Hell Valley Biff/Marty noncon fic I can find.

I'm also like 24 pages deep into the 60 page tag, and it runs the gamut. You've got the different continuities between the film trilogy, the game (which I never was lucky enough to finish playing on my phone before updates made playing it impossible) and the musical. But I'm in the general movie tag, so it's mostly that.

And even though I prefer the pairing as platonic best friends, I currently have a Doc/Marty fic open in my first browser tab.

...There's also a fair amount of Trans Man Marty McFly fics, which I jive with. The number of them that are also pregnancy kink are ...confusing to me, to put it lightly.

OH! And the continuity of the cartoon. Can't forget that either. There are some episode rewrites or tags.

...oh. Oh I did not need to know about the darkfic Biff/Marty stuff. That is hitting a button in my brain that probably could have remained un-pushed XD

I watched the movies as a kid and I honestly never considered even looking at fandom for them. Weird how that works sometimes.

The Doc/Marty ship tag is one of the only tags I follow, yoooo! (if you come back and see this, which fic were you reading?)

Weirdly, although I'd HATE Biff/Marty under any other circumstances, 85A/Hell Valley noncon I ABSOLUTELY buy into, like I'm SURE it either happened, or Lorraine arranged to send Marty to boarding school overseas specifically to PREVENT it from happening (very possibly she did so too late!). And I'm just intensely like... fascinated by how that would change him in that universe and how he'd be different from the Marty we know, and of course how it would impact the relationship of my ship of choice to have Biff hanging over Marty's head.

I kind of love Biff/Marty noncon regardless (I read one that takes place pre-canon before any time-traveling shenanigans that I really liked.) but I think it absolutely makes the most sense in Hell Valley. Biff is just. The worst. Abhorrent.

Funnily enough, Hell Valley is the only universe in which Doc/Marty makes sense to me, as someone who prefers to read them as best friends. I'd love to read something with Original Timeline Doc with Hell Valley Marty who's just desperate for love and positive attention and affection and a Doc who's like, "Holy shit, what happened here?!" but like, begrudgingly goes along with it because of how desperate Marty is.

Idk. I always say that Marty & Doc are best friends/father & son, but that I love Eggsy Unwin/Harry Hart from the Kingsman series because they're like the same dynamic, but with more sexual tension.

...I hope this didn't come across as me hating on your ship. Their relationship is the core of the series, whether you read them as platonic or romantic or sexual or whatever. I just love them.

Totally didn't read it as hate-- just that it's a ship you can see under very specific circumstances and generally prefer platonically, which I get!

There's an unfinished one with Original Timeline Marty and Hell Valley Doc, but I'd LOVE to see how our Doc handles Hell Valley Marty, who like... ABSOLUTELY needs someone to just LOVE him! And like, if what he's dealing with is an abusive sex pest stepfather who's not even NICE to him, you know, he's like OH, older man being Genuinely Caring with me? Someone who would be GOOD to me??

Also, I'm glad I could introduce you, a connoisseur of the Doc/Marty ship, to a new piece. There are definitely some really good ones out there.

*No, but imagine Hell Valley where Biff has Doc committed specifically to torment Marty because of how important they're growing to be to each other...The angst potential is off the charts. I'm obsessed.

pfff same anon, I just totally forgot to say ooh I have really loved what I've read of walkwithursus' stuff, but somehow I hadn't read that top one!

Just finished Stranger than Fanfiction by Chris Colfer and had some very mixed feelings about it. It wasn't necessarily bad and I liked some of the characters, but it was on the fanciful side of it and I didn't care much for the way he wrote the girl who wrote fanfiction (basically she was using fanfiction to drum up an audience in hopes of getting a book deal someday).
Although I did find it amusing about the way he wrote certain characters that were definitely based on his fellow cast members on Glee, like Lea Michele as the self centered actress briefly mentioned in the book.

Also finished Kate Beaton's graphic novel memoir Ducks. It was a good but heavy read about her working on an oil rig after finishing college; including Beaton's experience with misogyny and sexual assault - as well as the issues with mens mental health in an isolating job, exploitation of workers and environmental issues in the surrounding area.
Speaking of Kate Beaton, I'm glad to see that her Hark! A Vagrant comics are still available online - although I didn't know that she stopped making them around 2018.

I've not read any of Chris Colfer's writing, but I do appreciate any and all digs at Lea Michele.

I just realized that I misread the thread and thought it was about books, not fanfiction. I might need to go to bed.

I'm wading through the fast growing mountain of Deadpool/Wolverine fics, but I haven't had time to do more than skim + read tags.
