Transcript/translation? I can't make this out and make it make sense.

"kinda feel like kendrick going kanye is coming at this point but im not about to go say that out loud"

Kendrick is Kendrick Lamar a popular California rapper. Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, is an antisemitic, Hitler loving, misogynistic mess.

Regardless of whether you agree the quality of their art deserves the credit, which many people do agree with, both of them have also had their moment(s) as the supposed king and/or savior of rap, positioned themselves metaphorically as jesus, and have gigantic egos that won't stand for anyone else being in that position

Not that Drake didn't deserve the current backlash; he did

There seems to be some debate about whether he's a hotep, so maybe.

Kendrick is an artist. Ye was never anything but a personality.

Bullshit, Kanye did some great stuff. If he'd only ever been a personality, it wouldn't be so sad to see him now.

DA/NAYRT

I have never liked Kanye's public persona/personality, but he's made some amazing music. He's one of the most influential musicians in the 2000s and 2010s.

Not being precious, genuinely interested because I keep hearing this but I personally do not know a single one of his songs. Which could be either because I simply don't know which songs are his and thus don't know when one comes on or he wrote stuff for other singers? Which would you say are his most well known that a casual radio listener would know?

NAYRT

Casual top forty listener might have been most familiar with the Golddigger song (which samples Ray Charles). Other songs you may have heard:

Flashing Lights
All of the Lights
Runaway
Heard 'em Say
Jesus Walks
N*** in Paris
All Falls Down
Through the Wire

all of these songs range from 2005-2013? If you aren't into hip-hop, chances are you didn't catch these songs. Although Flashing Lights was used for an advertising campaign for both he TV Show Nip/Tuck and the perfume J'adore by Dior .

Great recommendations and I will add "Heartless," which I heard EVERYWHERE when it was new in 2008. I wasn't into hip-hop and didn't realize it was Kanye until years later. Now I love the entire album, 808s and Heartbreak.

I think I also never heard this one. Granted, hip-hop isn't really my thing, but I assumed that since he's so celebrated as an artist if not a person, chances would have been I would have heard one of his songs, just without knowing it. But no. Huh.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-17 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!
So I gave all of them a listen and I actually really don't know a single one of them. Huh. Maybe it's because I'm not in the US and also not really into hip hop.

Possible but he might just end up like Nas

Kanye's life experiences and upbringing are different from Kendrick's.

Kendrick can somehow go too far up his own ass and self radicalize into whatever nonsense he gets too far into

Or he can just grow old and still come out with solid records, but free from the pressure of being the king of hip hop (and TBH Kendrick seems to be more the type who honors the art of hip hop over his personal legacy)

It'd be funny if Kendrick goes the Ice T/Ice Cube route and he gets into acting/directing. And then he becomes either a prolific actor/director or a regular on a Dick Wolf show.

I don't think he's get into acting a la Ice Cube/Ice Tea. If he would be in anything, it would probably be something serious/dramatic, possibly indie.

kendrick's always been a hotep but kanye's always been an attention seeker, and ultimately that means different outcomes here, imo

I think Kendrick will eventually just fade into obscurity like any other prolific artist. Maybe he'll say some weird shit to try and get attention in the future but I doubt it'll be anything as obnoxious or gross as Kanye.
