What are you reading?

I just finished Out There Screaming, an anthology of horror by black authors. Of the 19 stories, I only disliked two of them. And that is because they were more fantasy, which is not a genre I enjoy. But this collection has a great mix of horror (fantasy, scifi, supernatural, psychological, etc).

Reading Never Whistle At Night next, which is a collection of Native American horror.

Various fanfics lately.

...Um, technically I've been reading Elle Kennedy's Good Girl Complex since May, despite having seen middling to bad reviews. ...It's fine. Giving "If Elle Kennedy wrote Anna Todd's After" vibes.

I've also read the first sixty pages of Cutting Teeth, which I was really liking, but I have a lot of ambition and not a lot of follow through where reading is concerned.

If a book doesn't catch my attention in the first two chapters, I drop it. Too many books out there.

I'm also reading a ton of fanfiction. Lol.

Big same. Reading is for fun, I struggle along or am bored with so many other aspects of my life I refuse to do so with "for fun" activities.

ayrt

I saw someone make an alignment chart for readers once, and as someone who tests as chaotic neutral, I landed chaotic neutral on their board too, which, wrt to DNFing books meant I just add them back to the TBR to be read later.

Idk. I love reading. I just don't do it often. Takes like 30 days to make a habit, 'n' all that.

Just gave up on The Daughters' War and haven't decided which library book to try next. I want to give Black Tudors a go but not sure if my brain is in history mode right now.

The complete FLCL manga that I found in the library; although I'm really confused about the story flow and wonder if I need to see the anime before I can understand the story.

Also just about to start a book called The Perfect Guy Doesn't Exist by Sophie Gonzales which I had also picked up at the library.

granted, I've only seen the o.g. FLCL anime (did not even know there were new ones until a new Pillows song popped up on Spotify a month ago) but. uh. no, it will not make more sense. it will make less sense. FLCL fandom has acknowledged for 15 years that Gainax made FLCL out of cocaine and insomnia, there is not any sense at all to this story. I don't even know which came first - if this is one of those cases like Tiger&Bunny where the anime actually came first and then there was a manga, then abosolutley no you will not get anything out of the anime.

that said, the Pillows provided a fucking stellar soundtrack so if nothing else, view it for the music, which isn't something anyone should ever say about an anime.

Still the same two books, one on the history of law and the other a Star Wars book on the history of the Empire.
