Yeah, this. I have plenty of friends who ship primarily het ships, but they also acknowledge the existence/possibility of non-het ships as well even if they don't personally ship them.

If you don't ship ANY non-het ships in ANY fandoms, then yeah, I think that's something you probably need to examine. Even my straight dude friends have some gay ships that they're into or at the very least acknowledge exist in the canons.

Meh. I only have gay ships, no het ones (I don't hate het, I just don't actively ship any het ships) and I think -especially if someone is straight- they do not have the obligation to have some "alibi"gay ships in their shipping portfolio just to avoid getting called a homophobe. Let people have their preferences.
And considering how batshit the SU fandom was about shipping, I can easily see someone getting hate for het ships in it.

"And considering how batshit the SU fandom was about shipping, I can easily see someone getting hate for het ships in it."

Yup. People have been harassed to the brink of suicide in that fandom for a whole lot less than that.

It's one thing to say that someone should be able to a acknowledge the existence of non-het ships; it's another thing altogether to say that they themselves must have at least one non-het ship. That transforms shipping from something people do because they find a pairing hot or because a dynamic speaks to them into a calculated political act.

You can't force someone to have shippy feelings for a pairing, anymore than you can force someone to be attracted to a particular gender.

No, you can't, but I'm gonna be honest, if someone has NEVER found a non-het ship that has dynamics they enjoy, then I am going to wonder why that is when non-het ships have just as varied dynamics as het ships do.

Do you wonder why straight people have never found the same sex attractive, despite people of the same sex being as varied as people of the opposite sex?

Except shipping has absolutely nothing to do with your sexuality. I know lesbians who ship m/m and gay guys who ship f/f.
