Yup, they all sucked. I rewatched it not long after the remake with Will Smith’s kid and it didn’t hold up for me. It was actually kinda sad because that movie changed my life by introducing all the kids I know to karate. Most of us took some classes as a result and a few of us went back to it as adults. Watching the movie again was like a cold shower.

Uh...

The 80's!

Sir/Ma'am. If you think the Karate Kid is distasteful and has unlikable characters...

I probably will give Johnny more grace now but when I was kid I hated his character so much, just a straight up bully.

Daniel IMO makes sense why he's a hard headed kid who can make bad choices.

Like IDK as I've gotten older I tend to like complex characters. I see how shitty they are and watch if they work on doing better.
I feel like in general people who watch movies and TV shows apply way too much expectations of purely good VS purely evil onto characters.
It's like they want the perfect character who does no wrong.
I get seeing people's shortcomings/bad traits, but I feel like people hyperfocus on that and don't take into consideration the story as a whole.
