It seems like the further the state fell in academic rankings, the more sports they removed from schools. Which is weird because the funding is usually primarily from other sources. And even the lowest achieving states have sports programs that boast football teams. It’s also really weird because participation in sports and football in particular have real world advantages for high schoolers.
