Maine did not give a fuck about football when I was growing up. Barely any of the schools in my area even had a team. We sure as heck didn't

How do Idaho or Montana feel about them?

I can tell you I lived in North Dakota and they preempted The X-Files for the high school state championships.

I flipped my shit in anger, haha. Honestly, most people who actually care will be at the game in question.

My school in Maine in 1991 had a football team and the whole school revolved around it. Just like my schools in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Louisiana, Florida, Wisconsin, Arizona, Missouri, and Colorado.

AYRT
so I looked this up because it’s so wildly different from my experience of going to school there. And holy shit! I had no idea how much it had changed! It seems like the further the state fell in academic rankings, the more sports they removed from schools. Which is weird because the funding is usually primarily from other sources. And even the lowest achieving states have sports programs that boast football teams. It’s also really weird because participation in sports and football in particular have real world advantages for high schoolers.
