PS5 or XBox?

(Anonymous) 2024-08-25 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I have finally hit the point where my old xbox will not support the games I want to buy so I'm going to need a new system by the end of the year. I'm very torn on playstation 5 vs new xbox. Anyone have experience or opinions on which way I should go?

Does the latest X Box play games from previous generations? If so, I’d stick with that.

For consoles, I’ve always had PlayStation because they had the games I wanted to play. There aren’t nearly as many exclusives for either console anymore so it’s more down to personal preference. I don’t have the latest gen but if I ever buy another console it will be PlayStation because they finally have backwards compatibility so I’ll get some more years out of many of the games I already own.

Yeah moving to PS and losing all my games is a big negative, but I am not really happy with the direction Microsoft is going so I'm thinking of jumping ship. My siblings all switched to PS last gen so there is also the draw of being able to play with them or trade games too.

I mean, I can still set up the old xbox and play the older games on that I suppose.

I know they are basically the same thng it is mostly personal preference these days, I'm just indecisive!

I bought an old x box from someone just to play one game LOL And I still use all my older consoles because PS didn’t add backwards compatibility for the longest time. But I don’t have a PS5 because there hasn’t been a compelling reason to spend the money. I still use PS4 a bit but mainly game on my pc these days. The consoles don’t offer what I want to play but Steam does.

PS5. PS4 and PS5 have better exclusives and it looks like some the Xbox exclusives will be on PS5 eventually.

Agreed, and this is coming from someone who actually bought an Xbox 360 before I got a PS3.

At the end of the day, I don't think the question is about the system itself, but the games. Which console has the games/exclusives that appeal to you most? Does it have a back catalogue of older games that you would like to play, is it compatible with older games that you would like to play again? Think about what you want to be able to play, new or old, and go from there.

Don't focus so much on the hardware as what you can actually enjoy on it. No one is taking score for which console you have, it's just down to what you enjoy and what you want to play.

I am so, so intrigued by the words "old Xbox"!
My brother came to visit last week and carted over his old 360 with Mount Your Friends, Trials, Worms and N+ and it was the best week ever.

As a wrinkly old person, what counts as an old Xbox now?

I have the 360 (2005) and the One (2014). The 360 is on its last legs sadly, but the One is still going strong, it just won't play newer games. Which hasn't been an issue since I tend to play games 10yrs too late lol but the stars are aligning and I am actually excited for a new release this year!
