D&D thread

What's your favorite D&D class to play, and your favorite way to play it?
If you don't play, what class would you choose to play?

I am a filthy stereotype and like Rogues because I like the chaotic good theif fantasy, or Druid because animals.

My favorites are characters who are on paper one class but in-game are an unrelated profession. Nothing says a fighter can't be a poet by profession without being a bard, he'll just be suitably awful at it. His entire aim for questing could be for fame and reputation so more people read his awful shitty poems.

My least favorite are when people assume my characters are based on me and my interests, or playing with people whose characters are very obviously based on them and their interests. I prefer LJ RP style tables where everyone is deliberately playing a very separate character to reduce ic/ooc bleed and drama.

Rogues or clerics, and I prefer collaboration with other players. I’m playing to have fun, and I want the other players to have fun, too.

If I have to run a fighter, he’s going to be a dwarf because they are tough little bastards.

Wizards are my least favorite to play.

Necromancer. Forever and ever. I try to spice things up with different races, like being a necromancer aasimar, satyr or gnome. Never play human or elf since I find them boring. If I can't be a necromancer than I'm some other type of spellcaster, usually elemental.
I usually go for chaotic good alignment with an open friendly approach to my team.

Clerics and druids. I like divine casters, I think there's a lot of complexity with their commitment to a god / greater cause, I think the high wisdom is interesting, and mechanically they tend to be pretty versatile and you can build them to be good at a lot of different things.

Also druids are cool cuz wild shape is super cool.

I've only played a couple times. But some kind of magical class like sorcerer and either lawful evil or chaotic good.

Sorcerers, druids and clerics are personal faves. Sometimes paladins depending on my mood. I like all the classes for the most part but I really like casters and do love anything that can do boomy magic.

I usually play magic users of one sort or another in most role play games (except for the games that don't have magic)

The one time I played was a warlock because that is what I played in WoW.

I’ve only played a couple times but I played as a ranger for one and that was my favorite. I really enjoy playing as chaotic good because it’s so close to my own personality but I get to really lean into it.

I always played a thief, usually half Drow (fun times!). Usually was Chaotic Neutral, and would kill things first, ask questions later sometimes, but as a rule, playing WITH the team and having a good time was way more important than trying to be some Dramatic!Amazing!Thief!! who could do everything better.

Rocks fall, your character dies. Roll a new character, please. Different class, race, and alignment this time.

Don't be an ass. If their priority was still playing with the team, and the other players at the table were fine with their character build, then there's nothing with it.

You are way more annoying than any other mentioned character. You should remove yourself from the community and reroll a better chatacter.

Rogue-- I like the stealth and the DPS, but the biggest thing is that I like to go skill monkey with it.

I've played as paladin before (Dragonborne) because I couldn't decide between cleric and fighter lol.

I am playing two Pathfinder games right now, a human wizard and a leshy druid healer. both are so much fun in different ways - I've never played a healer in anything before so it was a weird change but I super love the focus on taking care of the party instead of dealing damage!

I don't have a favourite class yet per se; I've only been in one longterm game and a couple of oneshots, and I'm casting a wide net trying to find the niche I'm good at (and it's not really working). My longterm character's a rogue who's currently grappling with survivor's guilt because it's fucking stupid that two actually good characters (and one actually good roleplayer) are dead and I'm still here clogging up the party :)

In general, I like having range, and I like being able to be sneaky. In 5e, this has resulted in the Trickery Cleric being my favorite. Blessing of the Trickster gets you (and the rest of the party!) extreme stealth; Invoke Duplicity gets you extreme range.

For roleplaying potential alone, I really like Warlocks and Bards. With the former, you can do a lot when it comes to your relationship with your patron and how it came to be. With the latter, I suppose it seems somewhat obvious, but I don't like going the stereotypical, "flirtatious braggart" route; I like riffing off of my chosen College. I also once had a character who was kind of the opposite of the stereotype, in that she wasn't flirtatious herself, but if someone flirted with her, she'd be beside herself and turn into a gooey mess.
