Tbh this is how I've been finding new music for years, ever since the days where you'd DL fanmixes from livejournal fandom communities.

I used to find all my new music via fanvids on LJ. It was great.

LJ fanmixes are how I found two of my all-time favorite artists, Vienna Teng and Patrick Wolf. I will always be grateful to that playlist (My Media and The Libertine were my gateway drugs)

Aww same here with Vienna Teng - I think the song Lullaby For a Stormy Night was my introduction to her through a Naruto fanmix.

I love it as well when a film leads you to a song you knew but forgot about and you wonder why you haven’t listened in years because it’s great. All of Us Strangers brought Death of A Party back into my life for example.

That's pretty much exactly what happens. Bohemian Rhapsody charted again after Wayne's World. Metallica got an influx of new fans from Stranger Things (not to mention Kate Bush's Running Up that Hill). Metallica had to specifically tell some of the older fans not to gatekeep (because some were saying the newer fans were fake fans because they found the band through the show).

Yeah, I like it too. I'm sure plenty of people find those comments annoying and stupid, but I like learning that a bunch of people found a song they like via a common source. I like feeling a sense of commonality with others in the instance where I too found the song via that source, but I honestly still kind of enjoy it even when I myself am not arriving at the song via the same avenue as others.

I'd feel better about it if Song I Love wasn't always getting used in Movie/TV Show I Hate.

That's really lovely!
I on the contrary cringe hard every time
