Same.

I actually kinda shipped Branson and Mary more by the end. Ooops. (Yes yes, he was her sister's husband buuuut I don't care.)

Same. They had more chemistry and made more sense than any of his other love interests, or any of hers after Matthew.

*shrug* He was a widower by that point and they had chemistry. I shipped them too.

A lot of people did. https://metro.co.uk/2015/10/18/downton-abbey-spoilers-lady-mary-and-tom-branson-to-get-together-5447510/

I think some of the people from the show actually had to comment on it at the time, the speculation and enthusiasm got so much.

I remember thinking the exact same thing the first (and only) time I watched Downton Abbey: "What, HIM? But they've barely spent any time together and he acts like such an asshole to her?"

I figured it was just crappy writing combined with the tired cliche about men treating women badly as a romance arc. I really dislike that trope, it's one of the things that soured me on the show.

His control freaky behaviour to me, when it looked as though he was going to get her, really, um, freaked me out.

*to her. Though I've been in that situation too, hence the freak-out.

Branston had psycho asshole vibes in the beginning. I didn't follow the series to know how it turned out.
