Re: Secrets you don't want to make...

I've been having the "should women be allowed to write m/m fan fiction"-debate in my head for the past 10 years and this is the solution I've come to: I admit that the gay men who say 'no' are morally right. I am appropriating the gay male experience and turning it into entertainment. However, admitting that it is immoral is not enough for me to stop. Writing m/m fic makes me very happy. I'll go as far as admitting my gender and adding a disclaimer that my fanfiction is not representation, but that's about it.

So I guess gay authors shouldn't be writing women and/or straight romances either then.

As far as I'm concerned, anything that starts with "should women be allowed to write" is immoral.

You have every right to express yourself. IMO, anyone who objects to that, because you are not male, can go fuck themselves.

Also, where do you think you're leaving gay men who love fanfiction and don't want anyone to stop writing it? Why should they count for less than people who complain?

Fanfiction is not representation and it's not pretending to be. If people want ideas that are more likely to apply to their being gay, or "what it used to be like," there's an entire biography section wherever people get books that would be more appropriate to that. Fanfiction has "fiction" right there in the name. You should not have to apologize for it or make disclaimers.
