Yeah I've always been equally baffled and annoyed by the fans interpretation of this character. He is a goof con artist who thinks he is cool but really just a disaster. A loveable disaster, but a disaster all the same.

Most beings in the Star Wars universe have zero chill. Some think they have it, but have it they do not.

So, I agree. He's a lovable rogue, a scruffy-looking Nerf herder even, but smooth, nah.

Haha spot on and thank you for the laugh, OP

LOL, I wouldn't consider Indiana Jones to be particularly smooth, either. Nor Harrison Ford, tbh.

Whatever he is,in 1977 he was a reason I suddenly noticed that boys could be cute.

Oh, same. He was my very first crush.

An early one for me too.

Suave? Never! But he had good looks and a character bio that at least sounds cool on paper. Also, he's usually surrounded by the most painfully earnest group of people in the Universe and Chewbacca, who is cool enough for all of them.

Honestly, yes. He thinks he's so cool. But really the reason he comes out ahead so often is because he's so lovable that those around him fall in love and rescue him from his ridiculous impulsiveness.

Agreed. his first scene is him acting cool to Ben and Luke but the minute they are out of earshot he is all "Holy shit, dude, we're totally not going to get murderized by a gang boss now" to Chewie. Han wants to be cool, and his arc over the OT is him actually learning to live up to his rep and learn that the "cool" loner thing isn't that cool after all.

Chewie's the cool one. Han just drives the van spaceship.

I watched the original film trilogy a lot as a kid and I hated Han XD

I remember when I was a teenager, it surprised me when I discovered that Han is a beloved fan favorite.
But I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised.
Fan favorites tend to be impulsive ne'er-do-wells who happen upon good luck and more capable individuals.
