Re: What are your regular buys at the grocery store?
(Anonymous) 2024-09-11 04:19 am (UTC)(link)Tahini for tahini lemon scallion salad dressing.
Soy sauce, butter, garlic, balsamic vinegar, and hot pepper powder of some kind (or many.)
Tofu for stir fries or baked tofu. Frozen peas for "argh so tired but need veggies."
I just made a ton of basil pesto from scratch and I have some ricotta ravioli.
Fresh fruit. Various fruit-flavored yogurt cups. Sharp white cheddar, usually at least a couple other kinds of cheese. Sometimes multigrain or rosemary sourdough bread. Bought a lot of deeply discounted but still more expensive than the cheap stuff fancy ramen packets recently.
Usually there's emergency frozen bean and cheese burritos for when I have zero time or energy, but right now there's Trader Joe's tabouli because it's too hot for hot food; I add drained rinsed canned garbanzos for extra protein.
When the weather cools off I'll add lots of diced fresh veggies, baby spinach, frozen peas, hot pepper, and minced ginger and garlic to instant ramen when I have time and energy, and just the spinach, frozen peas, garlic, ginger, and hot pepper when I have neither.
When I have even more time and energy and it's cold out I make lots of veggie or bean and veggie soups.
Speaking of weather (not) cooling off, my freezer is currently packed full of popsicles and ice cream. I also like salty crunchy junk snacks and only buy them when they're on deep discount so I don't get them often, which is good because I will eat an entire big bag without noticing.
I actually should buy milk and eggs and probably swap out my flour and sugar since it's been awhile since I used them. Usually keep olive, coconut, and whatever neutral oil, canned beans, jarred olives, honey, dried pasta, and brown rice in my cupboards, plus I have a couple of those heat and serve Indian veggie meal pouch things that I'll add extra veggies to and eat with brown rice.
I have a quart bottle that started as way fancy $$$ vanilla extract but is currently Costco vanilla extract with lots of whole vanilla beans (also from Costco) in it.
