But that's wrong. That isn't true.

???

Foreshadowing is when the story/creator hints at something.

Spoilers are when someone (usually an audience member, sometimes not) deliberately tells you something that happened in the story before you watch/read it.

At least that's how I interpret it.

You are very kind to explain. The rest of us were just too blinded by the wrongness XD

Here’s that attention you ordered!

I'm very sorry you slipped through the cracks of the education system.

mte. OP, did your teacher return your Edgar Allen Poe book report face down with a "see me" in red?

Don't watch the movie, it will spoil you for the movie!

But no?

You are very confused and very wrong.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-21 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Are you talking about easter eggs, OP?

I feel like Iniho Montoya. I do not think that word means what you think it means.

Also: reveals that happen in the media are not spoilers. They are storytelling

A spoiler is when you know without ever having watched the movie that Bruce Willis is a ghost in The Sixth Sense. Foreshadowing is when no one but Haley Joel Osment's character, who is established early on to be able to see ghosts, ever actually speaks to or even looks directly at Bruce Willis. It's something you may or may not consciously notice, and if you do, you can't be sure of its exact signifigance.

Yes, sometimes foreshadowing is more obvious. Sometimes that's poor writing, and sometimes telegraphing the inevitable outcome to the audience is the point, but even then it's not the same thing as spoilers, because one is storytelling and the other is not.
