Only character I really liked was Viktor and he wasn't even in the trailer for season 2 (I can guess why but still, not even one glimpse?). I'm pretty bored with the Jinx plot, ngl.
But from all I can tell, not having played the game is really not an issue - in fact it's a good thing. That game and game community is a cesspool. Also, you just don't really get much if any character backstory in game, so it's pretty irrelevant for the show.

It was really pretty but I couldn't get through two episodes. Characters were annoying but in a bland way (IMHO)

big same, OP!
as an animation fan and a gamer - loved watching it.
as a general fan - wow, if it isn't the okayest writing I ever saw. it's not bad, it's not boring so I watched all of it. but not a single character made me feel strongly about them, and I was already going in biased, looking to find out more about Viktor, Vi, Ekko, Sevika. they all look incredibly good, but that story and characterisation... bleh, meh. it could've been worse for sure, but wow, can't believe how indifferent I am.

PS: also I'm sorry, but they could've made something interesting if they made Jayce and Viktor have romantic feelings for eachother, instead of inventing het romances for both of them. like, that was painfully obvious because okay, if they stopped with Jayce having a woman lover then ok. but Viktor???? oh nooo, we can't just leave this poor guy for the fans thinking he might be GAY! surely not! insert het romance!

But Viktor didn't have a female lover. His assistant had a very onesided crush on him while he barely even registered she existed and only felt guilty when she died because he just killed an innocent bystander. I mean, I would have been all for more explicit implications for Viktor and Jayce, 100% but there was a lot of ship fuel for them (especially onesided pining from Viktor, imo) and Viktor was definitely not in a romantic relationship with the assistant.

that's fair, I think I went a bit overboard with this tbh. I guess the fact that they made his assistance a conventionally pretty woman is what annoys me. it could've been a man or an older lady or something, it just looks like a big fat hint at a potential romantic partner to me. but your reading is more true, for sure.
