i thought fascism was when the police force worked directly for the government to silence/punish anyone who speaks out against that government.

Man, I know so many people who say they're anti-fascist, and who also talk about defunding the police, but also think it'd be great to arrest people for what they say on the internet.

I mean, there are absolutely things that one could say on the internet that should get people arrested. The bar is just a lot higher than "something I disagree with".
