I meant to post to the main thread and not as a response to your comment specifically. I haven't read the book, so I've got no skin in this game. As you said, it's ridiculously overplayed trope in YA romance and it's usually because Endgame is bland as dry toast once they're not pretending he's "mean" anymore.
