I definitely picked up on gender nonconforming villains being "like me" and that being a bad thing, even before I had words for queerness, because I could see myself in villains with the "wrong" clothes or mannerisms for their gender. That said, I wasn't a big villain fan when I was very young, it took me until I was older to like villains more as characters. I think seeing a resemblance made me a bit more hesitant to like villains at first!
