Oh god, agreed 100%. It is all just bland (I like T'Pring though, I would be up for more Spock/T'Pring stuff). La'an and Kirk is just snoozeville and it felt so forced into the storyline. And Pike's partner (who is so boring that I can't even remember her name) is just dull as hell too.

In every case (Spock/Chapel; La'an/Kirk; Pike/Captain lady) it just feels forced and unnecessary to any kind of plot of characterization. Like there's some kind of imperative to pair people off.

If we need to have romantic relationships, then I would be way more interested in Chapel/Ortegas, or Chapel/M'Benga, or Pike/someone who is actually interesting, or, or, or...

(SA) I should have added...or anyone who had any actual chemistry on screen.

OP of comment secret.

Pike/Una is my ship of choice for him tbh, I love their dynamic and while I don’t mind it not being shippy as the two of them are great friends, it’s also shipper catnip to my brain.

I’m very much in the camp of wanting more Spock/T’Pring as well because I really like what they’ve done with her in this show, Chapel is great too but her and Spock don’t feel well matched, and I don’t mean due to the human/Vulcan aspect it just feels like paying homage to TOS rather than a natural thing for this show.

Especially since this Chapel is a completely different character than the original. It just feels pasted on.

Chapel/M'Benga! I never ship het, ever ever and there are so many great f/f options in this show and even for Chapel (Chapel/Ortegas for one) but nooooo, brain wants this for some really weird reason. Aaargh! They are just so good! Their whole mentor/student thing, the way they survived the worst together, the way they're so incredibly protective of each other, I'm all in for them. I know the show is never going to go there and that's fine, but damn, I ship them so much, I even looked up fics, and that literally never happened with a het pairing in years and even then it was mostly just 'yeah, I love this female character and I guess the guy is fine and het is all you get anyways, so guess we're gonna have to'. Here, I really really love them. I want them to stare at each other longingly and save each other from hopeless situations all the time.

Chapel/M'Benga REALLY appeals to me and I truly wish they'd have gone that route. They have history, much in common and trust each other. I'd buy them.
Nothing about Spock/Chanel compells me.

Thank you for making my secret anon, it’s lovely!

I think there are really two distinct problems with the romances.

One, the show is by FAR at its weakest when it's hearkening back to TOS lore and relying on stuff that we as Star Trek fans know about the show's universe. Spock's romance isn't necessarily a problem so much as *Spock* is a problem for the show, and the show would be better if he was much more of a secondary character.

Two, the het-only approach to the romances hurts things a lot. It feels weird with the overall tone of the show a lot and I don't like it.

T'Pring is fantastic, I love every minute she's on screen, but she should absolutely dump Spock and then kick him into space for the way he treats her.

Yes, agreed. This woman is amazing and Spock takes her for granted. She could do better!

She should make him fight his best friend to the death so she can marry her new boytoy.

I really enjoy the show, but it feels so... agressively hetero in a way many other show with also only hetero couples don't. I can't really explain it?

There ARE het ships on the show I'd totally ship - Chapel/M'Benga for example - but the ones they've chosen are so meh to me. Pike/Captain Lady I can watch but I don't CARE.

Aggressively hetero is a great way of putting it. The vibe is just so off.
