I don't have a problem with people enjoying fictional rapists, it's a character in a story. I do have a problem with fandom ignoring the rape to turn the character into a woobie, or even trying to justify the rape because the character is hot or has a sympathetic backstory or something, so it's "not that bad" that they raped someone. I found that really annoying in ASoIaF fandom for instance. Do whatever changes you want with AU, like whatever villains you like, but don't go so far as to excuse the rape in canon.

He's not a rapist. He's a character. Zero rapes happened in the real world because of a character existing. That's how you can like him. Easy.
