I saw him live and it was just kind of... cringeworthy. Maybe he was having a bad day or something, but it completely put me off his singing voice.

If your friends hate you for your ships, they're too judgey, seriously. (Though you can't expect them to read/comment on something just because you wrote it, if the pairing gives them the squicks.)

Re: Character hate, though? If you enjoy a character who's openly bashed you've got to know it's a drag to see your favorites criticized all the time. Though there's a difference between just not really liking say, Rose or Tennant, and constantly bashing them/telling fellow fans they suck. The latter is just... kind of uncool and negative.

Hating a character takes waaaaaay too much energy -- which could be used for loving the ones you enjoy. :)

I wouldn't expect them to, but thank you. <3 To be honest, I don't criticise anyone for their favourite characters or anything like that - hell, regarding those comments, I kind of don't mention it usually - but I was trying to be concise where I failed elsewhere with establishing just why I won't say this using my actual account; ie, my opinions tend to be unpopular. I honestly don't bash them because, as you said, it's uncool; it's mostly the other opinions that I'm willing to debate over.

Now that you've pointed out that it looks like bashing, I kind of regret putting it in there now. Crap.

To be fair, it's one of those cases of the few spoiling it for the many well, in this case, me, but I feel justified in assuming that there are others in a similar situation, such as yourself but the scary ones are really fucking scary. Y'know, I honestly never thought about it that way. That makes a lot of sense? IDK, I think it's becoming a bit of a thing with me. I've seen a few other guys in drag vs out of it, and I'm coming to the same conclusion as I did on JB. I'd just never really encountered it before, and then WHAM, sex on legs was on my laptop screen one evening.

It's funny. I'm aware that Tennant is not conventionally attractive, and if you said anything to me like, "his face is too pointy," "he's too skinny," "he's kind of a womanizer," or, "as the Tenth Doctor, he shouts too much instead of acting," I wouldn't really disagree (although I blame the writers almost entirely for the last one, and I think he had moments where he really got to show off how great he can be). But I'd still think you're crazy for not wanting to tie him to your bedposts, let alone dislike the guy.

JB on the other hand...if you said you wanted to bang him like a screen door in a hurricane, I'd understand. But you not thinking he's hot...I also understand.

Not sure how that works.

Oh, but - what's wrong with his singing? I bought the De-Lovely soundtrack well before I had any idea who he was, and the song he sings with Kevin Kline is my favourite track from that album by far.

You know, i also didn't find him the least bit attractive, in any way - until i saw an outtake that made me afraid that i was literally going to pee myself with laughter.

Now i think he's hot shit, even though i still occasionally find myself wondering why. And no, homeslice can't sing. At all.
