Same! I always thought Tails was a girl and was disappointed when I found out he's a boy. I don't remember what it was that made me think that, but I do remember it was in my late teens on some random tvtropes page that I found out he's a boy. I had to cross check with Wikipedia because I couldn't believe it.

Pretty sure the character gets voiced by female VAs a lot so it's probably a factor.
