What writers, new or old, do you wish people would talk about more?

Robert Cormier was my favorite author as a teen. The only one most people know is The Chocolate War. But has has so many amazing, dark books.

Jo Walton. Most people know her for Among Others but my fav was actually her Victorian-esque romance with dragons instead of people, called Tooth and Claw.

Maybe I'm just in the wrong circles because she's won a few Hugo awards IIRC, but nobody talks about Connie Willis where I'm at, and she's one of my favorites.

Avi! I want to read comparisons of themes and characterization across books.

DK Broster. She wrote historical h/c and close male friendships a hundred years ago. If she were writing today she'd be huge. But even her best book is buried on AO3 - it's listed under Jacobite Trilogy, because it was once published in a combined volume with its sequels, rather than under its own title of The Flight of the Heron.

How was your weekend?

(Anonymous) 2024-11-25 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
My sister came by and picked me up to go out shopping for holiday decorations, which she didn't really need me for and I really appreciated her inviting me along. I've been really struggling with depression and her reaching out and spending time with me really means a lot.

Fairly easy, which was nice. ran a couple errands yesterday and got a massage. Other than that, laying low. Lots of sleep.

mostly good

For the most part, it was good. Baked some pies with friends and we got to soak in a hot tub afterwards.
The only downer part was I got a feeling like one of my friends' girlfriend doesn't really like me (we're all afab), and this hangout is kind of proving my suspicions true.
Trying my best not to dwell on it too much.

Surprisingly busy. Finally acquired some household items I'd been meaning to get for the past few years.
