The Pilgrims exist so why would anyone think people wouldn't take their kids to space?

(Anonymous) 2024-11-28 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, not to mention the Oregon Trail. Space is the "final frontier" and people have pretty much always taken their kids on the frontier. If you're going to start a new life or at least spend years on end somewhere, it's not reasonable expect people to give up having a family at the same time.

seems weirdly specific that someone in your orbit was into Avatar but couldn't get with Star Trek TNG but uh. okay?

You think there are no blue people in Star Trek?

It depends. Kids to space, sure. But if your ship/whatever is a military ship, there needs to be a way for the kids to get away in a hurry and it has to be actually utilized. I would hope parents wouldn't take kids to war, especially in a more idealistic future. TNG did have its ship able to split, but it was rarely actually used.

Thank you, this was the first thing that popped into my mind! (also because there are no kids on that world)

Hey, why not: not only did the Royal Navy take young boys along, they used them as sailors! Retvrn!

Honestly, that could be a very interesting premise, with sub-FTL or slow-FTL travel: some members of the crew/supplements to the crew are chosen to be as young as possible because they're supposed to age with the voyage.

And there were women on board ship, and some of them gave birth there. During battles!

Why would I want to imagine children on a space ship?

Also we really do not need more children working in movies and television
