like other anon says, it's mostly pressure. mine HURT for a split second with the actual shunt thing went in but after that it was like a numb sort of pressure again. your back is going to be SORE for a few days (I think it took me a week to feel normal again). but it wasn't as scary as I thought it was going to be and they let someone come back with me and hold my hands which was really nice.
