We are doing our Thanksgiving on Saturday so we just made spaghetti today. Ate far too much of it then took a nap. Now eating some ice cream and trying to decide if I want to play Phasmo or not.

I had a great Thanksgiving! It’s my husband’s Sunday and yesterday we kicked ass doing yardwork so woke up today riding high on a wave of pride. We spent today together, went to a local place for awesome food, took a nap with the pups and then took them on a long walk. Finished the night putting up the Christmas tree and drinking tea. Easily one of the happiest, stress free holidays of my life.

I liked the dinner I made and listening to music and podcasts and watching TV, the only thing I wasn't happy about is having to be by myself. Did get a brief phone call from a few family members.

Everybody was yelling, so I drank too much to cope.

Good. Quiet. Learned about Thanksgiving dishes that have Black/Southern origins.

People trying to get me to do work stuff despite the fact that I am not a salaried employee (I haven't done shit yet), so it started off stupid. Watched Fellowship of the Ring and did a bit of laundry, then had one of those steak and stout pies from Trader Joe's and some beer.

It went pretty well, I kept a lid on my temper (mostly exasperation and frustration over peoples' quirks that I have to endure for longer periods of time than I'd wish) and we had a good family gathering, but I'll be glad when it's over, too.

Had to spend Thanksgiving (and... an unknown quantity of time to come) in a hotel because the main sewer line flooded part of the house. So... it was not traditional. But relatives from the next town over sent containers of leftovers over to us (they would, of course, have gladly had us all there, but this year she had extra guests and dealing with the whole flooded house thing was just too exhausting). And honestly, it was a good Thanksgiving! My sister who lives across town from us came over to the hotel with a board game and some microwaveable potatoes, and to offer to let us store some things at her apartment when we have to move everything out of the house so they can rip up and replace the floors. (we'll have a storage unit, but she'll hold onto any valuables or things that we might need to access more easily but won't need day in, day out at the hotel)

And honestly, the whole nightmare experience is putting into perspective how much I AM grateful for in having local family who all want to jump in and help us through it, to have insurance cover a LOT of what needs to get done with the house and getting us OUT of it until it's not a biohazard... like there were times when this kind of disaster would have been a lot worse for us, but we're going to ultimately be okay. My mom is thankful to get rid of the carpeting she's hated since buying the house, moving everything out and then back in is going to let us put up more shelves/storage within the house to make everything more livable, I'm going to actually throw out the clothes I'm never going to wear again... and when it's all over, I'm going to be able to host dinner parties and game nights again.

Okay. We ordered food from the this local bakery. It was mostly good, although the stuffing was gross (filled with overcooked mushrooms, which wasn't mentioned on the site we ordered from).

I honestly hadn't slept well the night before, so I ended up taking a long nap after eating, which was really nice.

Wasn't able to go home (family in another state) so went to see Wicked with a friend and then we went and ate at this Asian fusion place. I kinda missed the traditional meal but it was also nice to be able to go back home and not have to help with any cleanup or socialize with a large group of people so....

I loved Olive's family in Easy A. The rest of the movie was fine, but I loved Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tucci as her parents, plus her adorable little brother.

Winchesters+Castiel+Bobby.

Fellowship of the Ring. Totally counts.

Amy, Rory, River, 11th Doctor

The giant elven family of the Silmarillion. So many great characters all related to each other.

The Roys on Succession.

Not that I would ever want to be a part of this family, but they're great to watch.

The Royal Tenenbaums.

Likewise.

I enjoy dysfunctional rich people media, what can I say?

Arrghhh family.

This is a petty complaint, but I hosted Thanksgiving this year and my father, who doesn't like traveling or being away from his home but agrees to do it like ONCE a year is staying with me for a couple nights. He's the kind of person who claims to be easygoing and okay with everything, but I assure you that is not the case. He'll never come out and say he thinks my house isn't nice enough, but he'll oh so casually mention that hey, I can't help but notice that your water pressure isn't very powerful, or maybe your shower head needs replacing. (IMO, it's fine, he just doesn't understand the handheld shower has different settings and he can turn it to a more forceful spray if he wants.) Or hey, your window is fogging up, that means it's not well sealed. I mean. I live here. I know this house better than he does, but every visit he'll have half a dozen obvious things to tell me about my own house. He knows damn well I'm not made of money and cannot afford to have every single thing fixed or replaced, he just thinks that it'll be helpful to inform me of every issue he sees, anyway.

His latest thing is that he believes the bathroom door doesn't click shut as tightly as it should and we should get a screwdriver and loosen the strike plate or whatever. It's true that in humid weather, the door seems to have issues clicking. It's not a big deal, the door won't swing open by itself and nobody's going to barge into the bathroom because nobody wants to see him taking a shit. And since it's not humid now, the door shuts just fine - you can hear it click when you close it. But because he had previous "bad" experiences, now when he closes the bathroom door he goes through this elaborate process of wrenching the knob back and forth and up and down before locking it, because he thinks that's the proper way to achieve door closure. This achieves nothing but loosening the door knob and it'll likely eventually fall off in his hand, trapping him inside. So I'm sitting here wondering if I should tell him to knock it off and quit being ridiculous, or just give up because he won't believe me anyway.

Lol! This sounds like a pain to deal with but had me laughing when you described him complaining about the bathroom. Hope you and your doorknob make it through without too much unnecessary drama.

That sounds annoying, but also weirdly cute because it sounds like such a dad thing to do.

My father has departed for his own home sweet home, and my bathroom doorknob is still attached! No thanks to him, LOL.
