I found him insufferable in Buffy until I realised that he's suffering a terrible case of arrested development. He's still a dumb teenager. And by S3, Buffy had outgrown him. Props for realising that, dude.

I think part of the problem is that David is just so much taller than Sarah Michelle? Like he was constantly having to stoop just to talk to her in the same shot (Mulder has this problem too - must be a David problem).

He's a full grown man perving after a below age of consent girl, he supposedly falls in love with her when she is fifteen before she even comes to Sunnydale. That is canon, my friend, that is legit shown on screen. By any standards, he's a pedo. That isn't being an anti, that is just factually recounting what the show explicitly shows us happening.
