Harry Potter trivia....
"Did you know snapes first line to harry was code? HE ask what do you get by mixing powder of asphodel and wormwood
❤According to Victorian Flower Language, asphodel is a type of lily meaning 'My regrets follow you to the grave' and wormwood means 'absence' and also typically symbolised bitter sorrow.
If you combined that, it meant: 'I bitterly regret Lily's death'."

(Anonymous) 2024-12-15 05:22 am (UTC)(link)No, I could see book!Snape doing this. He's extremely elitist about knowledge and partial to sending secret messages to people who are clever enough to figure them out. And it seems clear that he wanted to find out if Harry took more after his mother or his father.

(Anonymous) 2024-12-15 03:50 am (UTC)(link)Do I buy it as "Snape was sending Harry code!?" No. However bad you or anyone may think JKR's writing was, she never reached the "Somehow, Palpatine returned" level of bad that she'd need to be to have done that.

(Anonymous) 2024-12-15 05:56 am (UTC)(link)Asphodel and Wormwood are used to make the Draught of the Living Death, which is the potion that wins Harry the Felix Felicis that becomes so important in Book 6.
A Beozar is used to save Ron in the same book.
Monkshood is used to make Lupin's Wolfsbane potion in the third book.
All of Snape's questions have to do with events in later books, though I'm now sure if Rowling had planned all that out at the time or not.
