New Years Resolution

(Anonymous) 2024-12-16 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I'm struggling to read my final book of the year (for 24 books total). It is one a friend gifted me so I want to finish it but it just isn't holding my interest.

Those with Resolutions, how are you doing on them?

My goals were to try to get a raise and be more proative at work. Considering I got a promotion with a big raise and am now department head, I feel I've done pretty well with my goal.

Thanks. Was pretty unexpected. My former boss left suddenly. Still working the manager side of things, TBH.

Had the same goal, also struggling with the 24th book. Nothing seems to be keeping my attention.

Heh I was just talking about this to my husband the other day! Mine wasn’t a traditional resolution and I kept it kinda vague and the timing kinda wibbly wobbly. The goal was to do something new in the kitchen every other week but allowing for extended breaks if I ended up doing a whole lot in a short time. It could be I tried a new ingredient, method, recipe, or cuisine. The longest I went without doing something new was 3 weeks and that was after 4 solid weeks of doing something new almost daily. I was tired of cooking and cleaning so I took a break until the mood struck to start trying new stuff again.

This year I:
ate more fresh vegetables than probably my entire life combined before this year
Became an expert at chopping, slicing, and dicing
Learned how to can using both the bath and pressure methods
Fell in love with homemade soups
Ate quinoa every day for about three months without ever having the same thing more than once
Taught my husband how to bake; first using a box cake mix and then scratch baking
Made a loaf of bread almost every other day except when I was traveling
Learned a lot about legumes and came to appreciate how versatile they are
And invested in chafing dishes and hosted neighbors for dinner several times

It’s honestly been amazing and so much fun! I would love to do it next year but I don’t think I can. I could try a new recipe every other week but even that would be difficult because of my restrictive diet. So I think I’ll just do the same thing for next year for however long I can.

Terrible. This year was awful for us, and my ability to focus on improving myself was often disrupted.
However, I am trying to give myself grace. It was an awful year, we had far too many deaths in our extended family, and grief can be difficult. I didn’t slide backwards, at least. I hope next year will be better, despite the political situation.
Seriously, fuck 2024. It’s been a dreadful year.

So sorry, nonny. Grief does make everything more difficult. I'm sorry you and your family are going through that. And I hope you have a better year next year.

Well, I didn't lose weight (actually gained a few pounds, ugh), but I started writing again and completed two fanfics, so there's that. Also completed my reading goal and cooked more often instead of eating out.

Losing some weight for general health reasons. Down 160->150 so far. 10 more or so to go. Not doing anything special besides one meal a day.

I did it, and I’m really surprised I did it!!! My goal was to get a dog, but my apartment at the time didn’t allow pets. So I started apartment hunting, but everything was so fucking expensive, I was seriously certain I would have to get a new job before I could do any of that. I had told my landlords I was looking to move so i could get a pet, and on June 2 they called to let me know an apartment would be available in a different building they own in July. 3 weeks later, I stumbled across a breeder who had a litter with 1 unclaimed female puppy who could go to a family in July. She’s 7 months old now, currently home sleeping in my new apartment while I’m at work, and I adore her. ❤️

Since I got 2 out of 3 done, my 2025 resolution is finding a new job. It sucks here, lol.

The only real New Year's resolution was to plan at least 1 vacation.
And I think I did well! I was able to plan 2 trips! One was solo in early May, and the other was a semi-solo trip for July 4th. I didn't really celebrate July 4th but I had an amazing week in NYC, just walking around Midtown and being a total tourist.

I tend not to have New Year's resolutions because they tend to bite me in the ass lol

My 2020 resolution was to travel. I was having plans too... Now it's almost 2025 and I haven't had a year with an ability to travel.
It's so cool that you've managed your trips! I am happy for you genuinely

AYRT

2020 was supposed to be my big moment to start traveling too. I still remember looking up plane ticket prices only for the next day to be told we were going into lockdown.

I hope you can plan a trip soon nonny <3

I am trying not to do them. And frankly I've been living on a day to day planning for the past... a lot of years.
I really want to try therapy for my anxiety and phobias. I have a trouble choosing.
For example, I know of a place that actually works with my problem without family/partner etc problems shit. But their advertising is a bit on a aggressive side and it makes me wary.

That is about future.
About the past. My resolution was to find a job mostly. And I did heh
