Talk about books! What're you reading? Last book you didn't finish? Reading goals for the year? Et cetera

Reading goal achieved \o/

(Anonymous) 2024-12-20 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Y'all I did it! I made my goal of 24 books read this year! I have been at 23 for about 4 months and doubted I would get there. Soooo many DNF books. (Also soooo many fics read.)
But I read the final one today and it was incredibly short but really good and I just got the sequel from the library so double woo!

I am struggling to finish Ghost Story by Peter Straub. My co-mod sent it to me because he loves it so much. I am 40% through it and I've been reading it all month. It will be my 12th book so I gotta get it done before 2025.

I recently finished Peeled by Joan Bauer. It's a solid YA book that focuses more on civic engagement and uncovering the truth than romantic concerns (although those still make an appearance). It also shows sane adult characters that are willing to help the teens do the right thing.

I'm currently reading Hera by Jennifer Saint. I tried the audio book but I didn't like the lady who was reading it, so I'm gonna finish it over my break.

I just started book 8 of 9 of the Mark of the Fool series. I’ve been reading the series on Kindle and annoyingly I will finish before the last book is released. I’m tempted to read it on Royal Road but RR versions for anything are always less polished. But for Mark of the Fool, I’ve heard book 9 is especially terrible and was even worse on the Patreon version to the point only like 5 people didn’t cancel support. I want to finish the series but if I read something else, I will not be able to switch back over without getting lost :( I wish my brain were better at that stuff. And I don’t know what I’d read anyway because I reached this point sooner than expected.

My computer is in the shop so I'm reading The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System. I'm really enjoying it! Cucumber is so relatable.

Slow Horses/Slough House

After watching Slow Horses, I decided to give the books a try.

Not loving them, to be honest, but I’m (so far) being sustained by my interest in what did or didn’t get changed for the TV adaptation.

Currently half-way through Dead Lions.

Currently reading Prey by Michael Crichton. I have 227 physical books left on my TBR. I have read 116 books so far this year which is 6 less than last year but 41 more than my goal of 75.

Honest question: do you remember the books you read?
Because you read a lot and it makes me think about me watching a lot of movies and not remembering half of them at the end of the year (I even take notes on my journal but still I forget a lot)

na

I’ve read about this many books this year, and I do remember most of them. I like to think I have a pretty good memory, but I also only remember the good ones. (Or the really bad ones but that’s another story) but a lot of times, I don’t have anything to say about a book besides “it’s fine”. Those are the ones I forget.

100% in the sense that if you said to me, "You read A Cold Nose for Murder, what was it about?" I could answer, but if you quizzed me to list the title of every book I've read, I couldn't pull them all up in my brain lol.

I got through like 15 Warhammer 40k books this year (love them) but mostly I've been sticking to non-fiction (hit and miss). Nothing has moved my soul like W.A.P. in quite a while.

Read a lot of graphic novels and manga this year - notably the whole of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle and Blacksad. Also currently just started reading Saint Young Men - really made good use of my library card this year lol.

As for books, I've hit a wall with reading for a couple of weeks now. Started and stopped reading two books: The Perfect Guy Doesn't Exist by Sophie Gonzales and Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson. Going to try and finish the former before the end of the year since I'm past the halfway point.
My favorite book that I had finished at the start of the year is Y/N by Esther Yi. It's short and starts out like a badly written parody of fanfiction, but it really did morph into something really interesting. I would like to reread it again when I get the chance.
