I have started reading The Rage of Dragons.

Marley was dead, to begin with.

(Anonymous) 2024-12-21 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)I'm kind of sad that she'll be too old for this series soon. I really like the idea of those books and find it fascinating which books resonate with her and which don't.

Re: Books
(Anonymous) 2024-12-22 04:42 am (UTC)(link)Side note: Is it the Peter Straub Ghost Story? I've had that one for a long time but never got around to reading it. I know I read at least one other book of his and it was...weird. I'm pretty sure it was that book (unless I'm confusing it with something else) that had a gay guy getting together with a woman towards the end, which is just...not great.
Re: Books
Halfway though, I don't recall any gay characters.
Re: Books
(Anonymous) 2024-12-22 06:11 am (UTC)(link)Oh, sorry if that was confusing, it was a different book of his with the gay character, I can't remember the name of it. I haven't read Ghost Story, but after the experience with the other book and what you're saying, I don't think I want to.

Re: Books
Before that was The Lies of the Ajungo by Moses Ose Utomi. Really interesting little novella and I am eagerly awaiting the sequel to be available at the library.

Re: Books
(Anonymous) 2024-12-21 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)Last book was A Cold Nose for Murder by Jennifer Hawkins. It's the third book in the series and if you like cozy mysteries and a talking corgi, you will enjoy it!

(Anonymous) 2024-12-22 03:05 am (UTC)(link)Player of Games
(Anonymous) 2024-12-22 03:05 am (UTC)(link)It uh, it fucking rules. There's a guy who's just *really* good at playing board games and card games and he's having some angst about feeling unfulfilled. It's like, what if everything but the very tip of maslow's hierarchy of needs was filled in but you still are looking for something? I know plot is going to happen, and I dig the humor, but I just really like how unambiguously cool and nice the Culture is.
Also it's fun to read while I'm hip deep in 40k. Like, it's the DAOT over here absolutely having a blast.
Re: Books
(Anonymous) 2024-12-22 04:38 am (UTC)(link)And The Lost Story by Meg Shaffer which is really good so far. I have some theories that I'm pretty sure will be wrong, but I have a feeling that whatever happens, I'm going to love it.
Re: Books
(Anonymous) 2024-12-22 08:44 am (UTC)(link)Last book I finished was Mexican Gothic, which I adored.
