I don't find that all that surprising. Most M/M is written by straight women and most F/F is written by straight men.

NA

Personally, I'm very confused when I come across porn obviously written by stereotypical horny straight dudes on AO3. Fic writing fandom in general, but especially AO3 given its founders, is so heavily women and queer dominated in my mind that it always throws me off for a second.

It kinda depends on fandom, doesn't it? I'd be surprised if most MLP porn was written by women

Ayrt

I just wouldn't expect that sort of MLP porn on AO3, is what I'm trying to get at. I could see it on Reddit or 4chan or wherever the bronies were back then. And I wouldn't expect them to acknowledge that they're writing fanfic, since that still seems used as an insult in wider fandom to this day.

This is mostly just my own bubble influencing how I perceive things. I'm largely a M/M shipper exclusively on AO3 and the little F/F or F/M I read I mostly read from authors I know from M/M circles, which probably skews my perception a lot. But it reminds me about one time when I did check the general tag for an M/F pairing on AO3 and was so confused why all the fic was just weirdly fetishistic porn, till I realised it was all written by the same (male) author.

That is exactly the sort of porn I'd expect from AO3chan.

This. You'd be surprised how many dudes write fanfic. There were a lot of them back in the day, outside m/m slash-centric spaces.
