Most of my family is sick, so we're probably going to celebrate in a few days. Which is fine with me, I'm going to hang out and read and relax.

I’m trying to embrace having celebrations whenever works, rather than having to do it on a certain date.

Yeah, that's something I've struggled with, but my mom has always been a proponent of the idea that it's the intention behind the holiday that matters, not the specific day, so I'm trying to go with it.

Already done with our family’s Christmas lunch.

Not too bad, everyone was pretty relaxed and things went smoothly. (It really helps that my rowdy nephews have grown up into much calmer teenagers.)

But I didn’t really get to eat anything, so I’m looking forward to Chinese food for dinner with my roommates.

Feeling like a dick because I blew off a family visit (in my defense, the visit was proposed only a few days in advance, when I had already planned out my holiday, but I'm NOT in the mood and not prepared for visitors this year), and also because I couldn't get excited about Secret Santa. Well, as excited as I had been last year. Don't get me wrong, I got a nice gift, and I'm not gonna throw a fit if my recipient doesn't fawn over mine (my skills are pretty mid), but I've been plagued with low grade anxiety and I just want to relax and feel good because it's the goddamn holidays, y'know? And I'd like to be able to do that without, um, mind-altering aides.

I am much poorer than I was earlier this year and most of my friends ghosted me after covid and neither of these things seems likely to change.
