It really all depends on what part of the fandom you're in, anon. I'm in and around the wrestling fandom a lot, and while the place has a whole bunch of fucktards, the corner I hang out in is really fun. I'd love to know who the BNFs you're talking about are though.

I think I know who you may be talking about. I'm a ff.net user/writer, though my niche over there is pretty small and we all get along really well, so don't let some people ruin your fandom for you because there ARE wrestling fans who aren't horrible and won't make you lose love for your OTP's.

This makes me sadder than I want to admit. The wrestling fandom was the first big fandom I was a part of (back when we posted our fics and stuff back on those threaded message boards). Everyone always use to be so copacetic about everyone else. You could write what ever you wanted, and the worse that happened was no one commented. But everyone gave off good vibes. To know that at least some parts of it have gone considerably downhill is kinda disappointing.

Awe, hell. Way back in the day (crap, Sable was still around... O_O), the boards I frequented hosted anything. Het, slash, femslash, gen, all sorts of genres and kinks. And everyone was cool about it. I'm not even kidding! It was like we were a bunch of pervy hippies. I mean, I knew it couldn't stay quite that cool forever, but I'm still sad to hear of wank and BNFs spoiling the party.

I'm kind of amused by this, because the fandom is so fragmented. I can go for years without seeing wank/bitchery/BNF antics in my little corner of wrestlefandom, and yet as soon as I wander out of it, it's all backbiting and wank. There are a lot of non-wanky places if you know where to look.

And like justaminuet, I remember the old school boards that accepted everything. LadyJackyl's, Jai Marie, the ShMARTASS list - everyone was so chill and awesome.
