I don't exactly hate it but I agree. At first, I thought I didn't get it but then I watched it a second time and it stilldidn't manage to make me like it.
Glad to know I'm not all alone. :)

Oh geez, I love that movie.

To each their own, OP. We all have varying tastes in movies, and it those types of character don't appeal, of course you aren't going ot like the movie.

I, however, am completely in love with everyone in that movie, especially Dafoe. *___*

don't worry, i think it's one of the shittiest movies i've ever seen.

Yeeeah, I tried watching it once with a bunch of friends who all loved it, and I couldn't get into it at all. The characters were just too unlikable for my tastes.

Willem Dafoe is the best part of every movie he's in, ever, so it makes sense.

I didn't like this movie much at all. I don't understand the hype around it, it just wasn't that good to me.

Dark text on a dark background is hard to see, but I think you said you don't like self-righteous vigilante characters? Yeah, I can see how you'd dislike the movie then. Just means you have different tastes. Personally I loved it, my dad enjoyed it, and my mother wasn't too impressed.

Either I'd seen too many things beforehand it was inspired by or it was unoriginal, I don't know, but to me it was just, okay, another story with violent characters being associated with righteousness in a way that challenges religion or the ethical sense of justice or both. Ooh, hip. Enjoyment of the movie kind of depends on that concept being a novelty for you, or so it seems because it doesn't have much else going for it, and it wasn't for me. Willem Dafoe was good, though.

The way they did things is, of course, not good but goddammit I liked that movie.

Oh, I don't have any problem with people who like this movie, not really. It's just that all my fandom friends like it so much and even my real life friends love it, I felt like I was the only one who really didn't like. I don't think there's anything wrong with liking the movie, I just got tired of being constantly told it's awesome.

I love you for writing this. I thought it was a terrible movie, poorly written, poorly directed, and even Willem Dafoe couldn't save it (in fact, I thought his performance was pretty bad, too). The ideas were cool, but...I don't know, it seemed really sloppily done or something.

Sean Patrick Flannery sure was hot, though. Damn.

Aww, I’m sad that the first BDS secret I’ve seen is a one that doesn’t like it. To be fair, I only really like the brothers because they’re hot and Irish. I think Willem Dafoe’s character is much more compelling.

...Aww! I just saw this the other day for the first time, and I loved it, and I literally give a tiny gasp/squee of joy when I saw the secret...and then I read it. Fail. :( But that's OK; it's quite over-the-top and doesn't appeal to everyone. I think it's very ironic and self-aware, in a way (I mean, OK, that's some amazing aim you've got with a toilet, there), and that's why I like it, but I see your point. (Besides...the accents. OH, THE ACCENTS. YOU'RE NOT JAMAICAN.)

Smecker's the best part. I find people who like it for the ideals presented are self-absorbed fuckwads. I can't fault people who love it for Smecker's ridiculous FIREFIIIIGHT scene, though.

OMG, I hate the FANDOM for this movie. I liked the movie and adored Dafoe's character. Holy shit. Canon gay! Compelling canon gay. THERE MUST BE SLASH! There is slash. Ugh. A gabillion and one twincest fics. BDS fandom is fail, fail, fail.

eh, the film itself isn't really promoting vigilantism. but I guess that's more of an individual interpretation. ultimately those implications are why it was basically blacklisted from the mainstream market. but Ia so hard about Willem Dafoe's character.

I found it a little boring, really. But William Dafoe's character was great, him calling that other guy in his bed a homo or faggot or whatever it was (can't remember, been ages since I watched), was fucking classic.

A few hours ago I was at a café where a high school age guy was telling another how great Boondock Saints was. XD It still lives!

I liked the movie? But I don't get why it's 'the most amazing movie of all time.' Revenge flicks are some of my favorites, but the callous way they went about it--prayer or no--was kind of a turn off. I thought all the actors were quite good, Dafoe especially, but the reason, above anything else, that I won't ever watch it again? THE FRIEND. HOLY CHRIST, I CAN'T IMAGINE A WORSE CHARACTER TO PUT IN THAT MOVIE. Without him, I think it would have been a ten times better film. What an irritating prick.
