I would be all for using only egalitarianism. Women in most countries (minus the ones with religious and governmental interventions) are hardly without rights, and some of the issues argued about are ridiculous (IE: The firefighter thing). There are rarely any issues these days argued about by feminazis that cannot be answered logically.

I am all for making sure women keep the rights they have, but I've seen some outrageous claims made by hardcore feminists (There are whole communities on LJ and other forums dedicated to bashing men and whining about oppression that doesn't effect them or anyone they know).

You said "feminazi"

[identity profile] kitty-wake.livejournal.com 2009-09-20 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
You lose.

God-damn do you lose.

what's wrong with that term when it's applied correctly?

Re: You said "feminazi"

[identity profile] marsdragon.livejournal.com 2009-09-20 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Because it is a term popularized by Rush Limbaugh in an attempt to discredit the entire feminist movement with a strawman. By using it you are basically saying that you are either completely out of touch or support sexism. (also that you like Rush Limbaugh)

Re: You said "feminazi"

(Anonymous) 2009-09-21 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Or just that you can't stand idiots that make the entire feminist movement look bad.

Re: You said "feminazi"

[identity profile] muffinman-owns.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
It's more like slang for incredibly crazy members of the feminist movement who make the rest of a movement look like a joke. Many people use it, I honestly am quite shocked that someone has admitted offense to it.
I don't think it's clever to use it. I..really have never had a problem using the word before. Actually, now that I think about it, my friend Ciara has used the word before and she's Jewish (We loved talking about the feminist movement and its ups and downs).
So. Uh. To each their own. The fact that someone says "I'M OFFENDED" on the internet should not be surprising to anyone.

By using it you are basically saying that you are either completely out of touch or support sexism.

So then because I'm white, I also support slavery.
Makes sense.

No, seriously. Using 'feminazi' is an ignorant thing to do. It's a term used by anti-feminists who try to bundle the entire movement up and dismiss it as being full of crazy people. When you use it, some people will make assumptions about you that maybe aren't correct. You probably don't intend that, because your surprise about people finding the term offensive appears to be genuine.

As a Jew, I find it offensive to use the term "Nazi" to mean anything other than the German political party that executed six million of my people and the people of later generations who agree with those views. Being an extremist feminist=/=committing race-based genocide.

Re: You said "feminazi"

(Anonymous) 2009-09-21 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, that's a good reason to dislike the term. Makes sense.

Re: You said "feminazi"

[identity profile] hanelissar.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
As someone who isn't Jewish but whose grandfather spent two years in a PoW camp being starved and abused by said German political party, I find that term offensive. As you'd expect.

But why should I not be offended on a lesser level than that? Why do I have to have a personal, familial/religious reason to hate the fact that people who are essentially only trying to reach equality (even if I hate the extreme levels it gets taken too and how 'feminism' seems to have become a dirty word), no matter how stupidly and how bad they make 'reasonable' feminists look, are being associated with a group of people who killed and tortured and maimed and ripped apart a whole generation?

I don't like it when people take feminism to ridiculous extremes. I don't support stupid ideas that are broached and crazy people who make the things I stand for a joke, a tired old thing that makes someone skip past anything mentioning it. But I like even less when people who also don't like it decide it's clever to name them after a group of people who committed genocide and acts of unspeakable cruelty.

I don't think you should, and I think EVERYONE should find the term feminazi offensive. I'm just point that it offends me on a personal level, not just as a compassionate human being.

Sorry, what I said wasn't aimed at you - I absolutely see and appreciate the personal level on which it offends you, as it offends me on a similar one. I clicked the wrong post to reply to - I meant to respond to the anon who seemed to be implying that you can only offended by the term if you have a personal reason to be offended. We are clearly of the same mind on this matter, and I am glad about that.

Anon here hates the term feminazi and isn't Jewish. I thought that everyone with a lick of sense thought it was a stupid word....

Re: You said "feminazi"

[identity profile] dwinghy.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Unless you're talking about goddamn Ilsa She-Wolf of the SS, the term "feminazi" is never used correctly, and anyone who uses it automatically outs themselves as an idiot.

Re: You said "feminazi"

[identity profile] iteari.livejournal.com 2009-09-22 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe just the idea of it coming from somebody like Rush Limbaugh who is set on dirtying the word Feminist and its movement.

While I am critical of some extreme feminists (there are other radical feminists I actually do mostly agree with and like; I have no idea what this says about me *shrugs*) I detest that word because I feel like I am actually letting someone like Rush Limbaugh influence me in some way *shudders* on the Feminist movement as a whole.

Every movement, every religion, every organization has its flaws, and I don't think that those should necessarily lessen whatever ideal they are trying to promote...

Also, the word, to me, just sounds fucking stupid when you say it out loud.

[identity profile] zanzou-chan.livejournal.com 2009-09-20 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Just because they have rights does not mean they have equal rights, nor does it mean they are treated equally even if they have those rights.

[identity profile] skelody.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
When in doubt, go back to the core definition. If one is misandristic, one is not a feminist. On the other hand, it is dangerous to dismiss observations of nonobvious injustice as "whining". Such injustices' very invisibility is part of their insidiousness, and it's always worth keeping in mind that social mores -- unlike legal ones -- are ingrained into our minds at a level often beyond questioning.

[personal profile] amaresu 2009-09-21 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, because believing in equal rights is exactly the same as invading Poland and setting out to exterminate an entire race. Clearly.

Why the hell don't I have that lovely icon?

[identity profile] snowdevil-crow.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well, to be fair, the term is usually only used to refer to crazy extremists that hate on men (I think).

Though as an anon in this thread mentioned, it's still rather offensive, for different reasons.

... er, not so much different as... >.< okay I think you probably understand what I mean.

It's still a ridiculous term. It's offensive no matter how you look at it.

[identity profile] snowdevil-crow.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it's offensive, I'll agree to that. It's just, it's not referring to people that want equal rights for women, it's referring to... the crazies.
