A lot of the time, the fights between fandom feminists and, well, people who are sick of fandom feminists, stem from the fact that those arguing the feminist perspective will often shorthand common feminist arguments and expect people to pick up on it. To those who haven't had the same exposure to the background reading, their arguments can sound hyperbolic or ridiculous.
I'm not saying you must put yourself out to go and learn about feminist thought, but if you do have some spare time and the inclination, a little exploration of the feminist blogosphere can really help one to articulate problems with gender inequalities today. If it doesn't win you over to those points of view which, at first, seem OTT and extreme, it will at least give you solid examples of such positions to refute.
