I never could get into it, either, but my husband watched the whole thing, and I had the theme song stuck in my head forever. Great song.

I watched the first episode of this show twice to try to get into it. I thought it was boring, and the way people online talked about it made me think the only reason people cared about it was because of 'representation'. If the cast was just a bunch of white people, the show would have tanked and Netflix would have cancelled it after one season was the impression I got from tumblr.

I wondered about this, too. It seemed very "as good white allies, we all need to loudly swoon over this representation" ... and offputting in exactly those ways.

I mean, I really enjoyed the first few seasons, and never interacted with any fans online at all.

I don't think it's fair to make a general statement that those who liked it only did so for social justice bona fides.

Eh. I'm not someone who watches stuff because of "representation"/ to support a diverse cast (occasionally I've tried and given up pretty quickly. But I quite enjoyed the first few seasons of OITNB.
