I think Superman is a character better suited to comics or more long-form media, such as TV shows or animated shows. There are a lot of layers to him and movies barely scratch the surface. They can never seem to get his balance right and reduce him to a shallow interpretation.

There was a post on Tumblr about how the Justice League cartoon was able to slowly develop Superman’s flaws while contrasting them with his virtues. Movies that go straight to “dark and edgy Superman” have nothing to contrast to.
