All my really long-running fandoms are huge canons that get new installments. Short canons seem to just vanish these days, which is disappointing. I'd say part of it is the Netflix model where you have to binge watch just to be in the discussions, but there's traditionally released (series, books or one and done movies) fandoms treated the same way.
