Most of the people who do this are addicted to screens themselves (at home) and if the kid is busy then they don't feel guilty about their own activity.

I've seen this in my family I was visiting for the holidays. Four people in the house looking at loud Tiktoks EVERY DAY for hours. I had to make excuses to go out and do random things to escape.
