Man, the og character designs were iconic, I never watched the series but couldn't escape it in my LJ circles.

Everybody keeps calling the series bad, but I never understood why? Was the plot stipid, the animation poor, VA terrible or what exactly..? Or do I just need to watch it after all these years now lol

"Was the plot stupid, the animation poor" Yeah, very much so. Also the official subs were a crime (in several different countries no less). The VAs were basically the only thing that didn't suck.

Was the fansub reasonable? Or (assuming it was also a manga) the scanlation? Because it looked like they were trying to make something good, and they had some pretty stiff competition from other plotty, beautiful anime.
